Should I Use a Wood or Metal Pole Barn Kit?

Today pole barn kits come in a wide variety of materials. Wood and metal are often the most popular. When you start planning your pole barn building consider what your needs are and what material is the best option for your post frame building. As long as you order your pole barn kit from a reputable company either a wood or metal materials will be sufficient for building the structure you want. Often, the decision to go with wood or metal is a personal one.

Many people who own farms enjoy the traditional look of wood. While a traditional barn would be ideal, the cost is often too high and instead farmers will choose a solid wood pole barn kit to house equipment, livestock and materials. Wood can be ordered in many colors and when you use a strong lumber you will have sturdy post frame building that will last.

However, when choosing wood, remember that the elements can be hazardous. If you live in an area that is prone to heavy rain and snow you will have to treat the wood periodically to resist water damage and for some this can be a time-consuming and tedious process. Also, wood that is painted may need to be painted again after a few years due to fading. There's nothing wrong with choosing wood for your pole barn kit, just know that is may require a little more work than metal.

Metal is a very durable material and is chosen by many residential and commercial pole barn builders. Sturdy and weather-resistant, metal offers a high quality siding for your post frame building. However, even the most durable siding can be torn from a puncture and this can leave jagged edges which can be dangerous. When properly installed and maintained a metal pole barn building will be a terrific option for your needs, just be sure you are careful about any metal siding that is compromised by accidents, dents or dings.

When it comes to cost, the difference between a wood and metal pole barn kit is relatively small. High grade lumber may make a wood pole barn kit slightly more expensive but not so much it will determine which material you should choose.
