Finding a Pole Barn Builder

At The Pole Barn Company we offer customers a great selection of pole barn kits that can be used for many purposes including storage, garages and workshops. We give you everything you need to construct a sturdy, stable and useful post frame building… except for the builder. For that you will need to either be prepared to build a pole barn yourself, or find a contractor you trust who can use what is included in the pole barn kit and construct a functional pole barn building.

You may find contractors who work specifically on pole barn installations or someone who provides this type of construction in addition to other general contracting projects. Before you hire someone to install your pole barn from one of our pole barn kits, keep the following in mind:

Experience – Pole barns are not very complicated and most installers can have a post frame building constructed in a day or two. However, you will want to find someone who has installed pole barns in the past. Though it seems simple enough, erecting a pole barn can be tricky and if the contractor has never constructed one before you probably don't want to be the first. Look for contractors who have experience working with pole barns to feel better about your project.

References – Never hire any contractor for any job without checking their references. If a contractor can't provide any references that is your first red flag. Contractors who take pride in their work and run a professional business know how important references are and should be more than happy to provide you with people you contact to verify their work. Find at least three people you can contact you check on the skills of the contractor you are thinking of working with.

Costs – A big part of the pole barn costs will be the kit itself. However, when you hire a contractor you also have to factor in their charge for time. Sit down with the contractor you choose and discuss what the rate will be; is it a flat-rate, an hourly rate or is it dependent on the finished product? Are they working under a deadline and if they miss it will they be paid for over-time?

If you have building experience you may feel confident enough to install your own pole barn building. But if you are not comfortable constructing a post-frame building then it is better leaving this job to a professional contractor.
