Benefits of Metal Pole Barns

Constructing a pole barn often involves one of two materials: wood or metal. While both have features that make it a solid fit, metal is becoming more popular. If you are looking to purchase a pole barn kit for residential or commercial property, consider the many benefits to using metal rather than wood.

While wood looks nice and creates a more traditional farm barn feel, it is more susceptible to climate hazards such as rain and snow and can also be weakened by termites and other insects. In order to keep rain and insects from harming your wood pole barn you will need to apply regular treatments and finishes that will prove costly over time. Metal is a much more durable material and will last longer than wood. Some other benefits include:

Durable: As we mentioned above, wood will have to be treated often to keep it safe from climate hazards and insects. Metal and steel are stronger and will resist the elements much better than the strongest types of wood. Once a metal pole barn is constructed, there is very little you have to do in terms of maintenance to keep it sturdy.

Versatile: Metal pole barns also offer the advantage of being easier to work with when it comes to additions and accessories. Wood can be difficult to customize and unless you are a skilled carpenter you may have to hire contractors to help you cut sections that you are trying to change. Metal and steel are much easier for add-ons and won't require the cost of hiring additional help.

Better Siding & Roofing: Metal is a better material for siding and roofing. Where wood can be susceptible to foul weather that can cause leaks and erosion, metal will repel rain and snow and leave the interior of your building safe from water damage.
